Even if you're the last thing I see, I'll be waiting
-Anticlea ("The Underworld")
Anticlea was the Queen of Ithaca. She was the mother of Odysseus and grandmother of Telemachus.
Personality[]
Not much is known about her personality, as she is only seen as a soul in the Underworld Saga. However, it is indicated that she was a very loving mother, so much that her despair of waiting for her son, Odysseus, to return to Ithaca after the Trojan War drove her to death.
Given the fact that Odysseus thinks very highly of her and is devastated when he learns of her death, it can also be said that she was a gentle, kind and warm-hearted woman and likely an equally well-liked queen. While Odysseus is at first unable to think of his mother without remembering that she passed away waiting for him, it is remembering that her love stays with him that partially allows him to overcome Poseidon and make it home at long last.
Biography[]
Act 1[]
At some time during the Trojan War or during Odysseus' journey home, Anticlea died of a broken heart in Ithaca. In The Underworld, Odysseus heard his mother singing to him, promising to wait until he returned home. Sadly, he was only able to say goodbye to her after she was already dead.
Act 2[]
Anticlea appeared to Odysseus through hallucination in Love in Paradise, and temporarily left the Underworld in ghost form to assist Odysseus.
