Old king, forgive us instead, so that no more blood is shed!

—Eurymachus (Odysseus)

Eurymachus is one of the 108 suitors of Penelope in EPIC: The Musical.

History[]

Eurymachus was a nobleman who became one of the suitors of Penelope in an attempt to become the new king of Ithaca. When Odysseus showed up to reclaim his throne and kill all the suitors, Eurymachus attempted to reason with the old king, stating that they were no longer a threat because he killed their leader, Antinous, and instead suggested that Odysseus should forgive them and embrace open arms. For his troubles, Eurymachus was shot through the chest by Odysseus, who threw away that policy many years ago.

Trivia[]

  • Eurymachus had a much bigger role in the original Odyssey, co-leading the Suitors with Antinous.
  • Gwendy, the artist for Song 38's official animatic, pitched to Jorge that Odysseus should cut off Eurymachus' arms after he attempted to suggest open arms.
    • While this idea was ultimately scrapped, Gwendy did post the storyboards for this idea on her YouTube channel and said that Jorge had a very visible, shocked reaction to the suggestion.
