So many heroes. So many tales. Give me one good reason why yours should prevail.

-Hera ("God Games")

Hera is the queen of Olympus, and the goddess of marriage and family. She is the sister-wife of Zeus, and the mother of Hephaestus, Athena (by fostering), and Ares. She serves as “Level 5” of Zeus' test for Athena during God Games in Epic: The Musical.

Biography[]

Act 2[]

Hera is invited by Zeus to test Athena as a pre-requisite for saving Odysseus from Calypso. Hera is not impressed with Odysseus' mind or wit, but she decides to release him after learning from Athena that he is incredibly loyal to Penelope, something that Hera can't say about her husband.

Trivia[]

  • Hera's music style is disco, inspired by Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive"[1]
  • Along with Athena and Aphrodite, Hera was one of the three goddesses whose feud resulted in the beginning of the Trojan War. Athena seems to be the only one to acknowledge it, albeit indirectly, when she apologises to Odysseus for all the grief he was put through.[2]
  • Though it is never mentioned in the musical, Hera is the daughter of Kronos and Rhea, and the sister of Zeus and Poseidon.
